Knowledge Strategy Consulting

Several factors are influencing the way in which knowledge is generated, managed, shared and applied in organizations. These factors include, among others:

  • Shifting customer relationships - from direct delivery of product to operating in partnership with customers and/or suppliers
  • The increasing need for explicit knowledge (documented in papers, manuals and other forms) to be relevant, timely and accessible for decision-making; organizations and individuals have to successfully contend with the outcomes of the information age - explosion in the volume of information and the speed of its dissemination.
  • Attrition in corporate memory, initially triggered by downsizing but continuing as a result of organizational restructuring (e.g. outsourcing) and the demographics of the workforce
  • The importance of making effective use of the vast expertise and experience (tacit knowledge) that the organization has accumulated
  • Increasing accountability and stakeholder expectations for transparency of decisions, accompanied by an increasing reliance upon partners and stakeholders for knowledge creation and sharing.
A Knowledge Management Strategy based on the network model (flows of information as opposed to stocks) would set the foundation for a strategic and systematic approach in the development and implementation of appropriate knowledge management initiatives. Such a strategy would address:
  • Your organization's business needs and objectives;
  • Assessment of your organization's knowledge management practices;
  • Barriers to the adoption of sound knowledge management practices within the organization
  • Articulation of a knowledge management vision for your organization
  • Identification of appropriate knowledge management initiatives, with estimated costs, benefits and implementation requirements
  • Preparing of information packages to support the communication and implementation activities
